Friday Morning Class – Room A
Course Description: This class focuses on GED Social Studies test preparation. Students will
-Use critical thinking strategies including
-comprehension
-application
-analysis
-evaluation
-Interpret and understand various visual resources
-Use reading strategies to increase comprehension
-Build vocabulary
-Become familiar with social studies concepts
-Become familiar with the GED Social Studies test structure and question process
Pre-requisite/program: Completion of ESL level 3 OR placement by CVAS staff
Textbook & Materials: Textbook: Steck-Vaughn GED Social Studies (can be purchased in class from the instructor). Cost is $20.00. The
book is mandatory as we will use it each day in class.
Attendance: It is VERY important that you attend class regularly and that you arrive on time. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility
to contact the teacher or another student and make up any missed assignments at home. Check in on the attendance
sheet by the door every day.

Class Rules:
1. Attend class regularly and arrive on time. (If you arrive late, please do not disrupt the class.)
2. Participate in all activities, including lectures, discussions, and group work.
3. Be respectful of the teacher, adult school staff, and other students.
4. Turn your cell phone to silent in before class starts. No texting, talking, web browsing, etc. in class. If there’s an emergency, please go outside to
the parking lot if you need to use your phone.
5. Practice, practice, practice, and HAVE FUN!
